Designing Selection Criteria for Key Roles within HSBC

CLIENT

HSBC

The Challenge

Due to significant changes to the Bank’s corporate strategy, the Bank wanted to review its selection criteria for key roles in the business

The Solution:

We spoke with a diverse group of people with the strategic insight to know what contribution the roles should be making to the business strategy. We then developed a set of indicators that were forward and outward looking, reflected the culture and values of the Bank and encouraged a diversity of approaches. We recommended changes to the Bank’s current selection processes and aligned the new criteria with the Bank’s management capability framework ( used to measure staff development).

Outcome

The criteria was considered to successfully reflect the new requirements of the roles and the Bank was confident that their selection and development processes were aligned. As a result of the success of this work, we later designed the Bank’s Global Values.

“Human Assets used the Indicators of Excellence approach to profile a large number of roles across the Bank. These profiles have been used to underpin our selection process and we have had excellent feedback from line managers regarding their usability and accuracy in the assessment of candidates”
