Coaching Style and Approach

I help people to become more effective through a collaborative and solution-focused coaching style. I agree goals with individuals early on and work with them in a facilitative way to help them achieve these. I often see people limited by the way they interpret events and situations and believe that people can benefit enormously from changing these unhelpful 'automatic thoughts'. My experience and training in psychology enables me to draw on a wide range of theories and principles to help people resolve specific problems or unlock their potential. I have worked as an occupational psychologist in a number of different cultures across Asia and Europe with many different types of organisations, in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. As a result I have seen all sorts of challenges that people face in their work as well as worked with people with very different goals, motivations and personalities. I adopt a holistic approach to working with these people - looking at thoughts, actions, situation/context and emotions. Whilst this involves some hard work for clients, I find that this rounded approach enables a long-lasting impact as opposed to a quick fix.

Clients & Comments/Testimonials

Examples of Clients

1.    HR Director for a major insurance company - building confidence in his new ex-pat role. This individual was finding his new role as HR Director in a different country and culture extremely challenging and felt he had lost much of his confidence. We looked at the cultural challenges he was facing and how he might deal with these. As well as helping him to understand the cultural issues, I found a cognitive approach to be very appropriate as it became clear that he was discounting any positive evidence/feedback and focusing only on the negative.  We worked on challenging his 'automatic thoughts' when faced with challenging situations and helping him to develop more helpful alternative ways of thinking. The coaching helped the client work in a more confident, constructive and sensitive way, enabling him to be more effective in his new role as well as enjoy it more.

2.    Finance Manager - development of interpersonal skills. This individual was struggling to develop relationships with others, both with his team, and more broadly across the organisation. This was holding him back from fulfilling his potential. As part of getting to the heart of the issue we carried out a 360 degree assessment to help pinpoint the key areas to be targeted. Following the feedback and through further discussion we set some specific goals in terms of interpersonal development. Coaching helped the client strengthen his self awareness and interpersonal skills enabling him and others in the organisation to see a positive change in the way he built and developed relationships.
